Updated April 7, 2023: We are now seeking a full time reporter to join our team helping reimagine and rebuild local journalism with our communities. If you are an experienced reporter who’s looking to grow your skills under the guidance of a great editor, apply now through May 7, 2023 for our current hiring cycle.
As a Luminaria reporter you’ll typically be writing two to three stories weekly that serve Arizonans who are deeply engaged in their communities. You’ll produce a mix of community journalism, enterprise reporting, investigative and narrative stories with your editor’s support.
You’ll dig into issues that matter to Arizonans, including inequalities, civics, racial and social justice, education funding, healthy communities and our desert environment. We don’t cover breaking news or press releases.

Freelance writers, translators and photographers
Arizona Luminaria is seeking freelance journalists to pitch us stories for publication. We are especially interested in pitches that center Arizona communities across the state, especially our most vulnerable and fall under the categories of environment, education, community growth and equity. All content will be edited and fact-checked prior to publication. We are not seeking opinion pieces or columns.
We are seeking freelance translators who can sensitively and quickly translate a news story from English to Spanish, keeping in mind journalistic style and Arizona cultures.
