When Tucson officials were negotiating a 290-acre data center behind closed doors, the public didn’t know who was behind it.

Arizona Luminaria’s reporting identified the company as Amazon. We documented how non-disclosure agreements kept the proposal, potentially the largest development in the city’s history, out of public view, even from some elected officials. We covered the community response as it grew. We stayed on the story.

We can’t say what would have happened without independent reporting. But we know that communities make better decisions when they have the facts.

That’s what this newsroom exists to do. And it’s why we need your support.

Right now, your support can go even further.

As part of our spring campaign, we’re raising $10,000 to sustain this work and keep our reporting free and accessible to everyone, with no paywall. Thanks to a $10,000 challenge gift, every contribution is matched dollar for dollar.

Reader donations currently fund one of our full-time reporters. Help us keep growing.
