The League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson will host activist Jon “Bowzer” Bauman to talk about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 12. Register.
The Center for Biological Diversity, a Tucson-based environmental non-profit organization has filed an official objection to a proposed new road near the US-México border. The road project has been approved by the U.S. Forest Service and the Border Patrol. “The Trump administration is playing fast and loose with science and trying to mislead the public so it can bulldoze a destructive new road through prime endangered species habitat,” said Laiken Jordahl, Southwest conservation advocate with the center, in a statement. Jordahl added that the road would “further fragment habitat for jaguars, ocelots and Chiricahua leopard frogs.”
Celebrate and uplift Indigenous men at the Tucson Indian Center’s Men’s Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 13. The event will feature guest speakers, health education and fatherhood discussions.
Meet the candidates for Tucson City Council at a meet-and-greet event co-hosted by Arizona Luminaria and Tucson Spotlight on Tuesday, July 8. This isn’t your typical forum. No grandstanding, no soundbites. Just real people talking about real issues that affect our neighborhoods. This event is an experiment in civic engagement and education, designed to create space for meaningful dialogue between candidates and community members. Ask your questions, hear from the candidates and cast your ballot with clarity. Free to the public, but you must RSVP because space is limited. Early voting begins July 9 and Primary Election Day is Aug. 5.

Independent voters have until June 23 to select either a Democrat or Republican ballot for the Tucson City Council primary election. Send in the card that came in your mail or call 520-884-VOTE. Early voting begins July 9 and Primary Election Day is Aug. 5.
Register to vote by June 16 to participate in the special primary election for Congressional District 7. That’s also the deadline to update your address if you’ve moved. Check your voter registration.
The Republican candidates running for Congress in District 7 — Daniel Butierez, Jorge Rivas and Jimmy Rodriguez — will appear at a candidate forum Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m. at the Masterpiece Event Center, 1145 E. Fort Lowell Road in Tucson. RSVP.
