The Arizona Corporation Commission did not take action on a round of requests to rehear the energy agreement between Tucson Electric Power and Humphrey’s Peak Power LLC, including filings from the city of Tucson and Arizona attorney general. That automatically denies the applications. “ACC Staff found that the ESA would have no adverse impacts on system reliability and may even improve reliability.” the commission’s release on the requests said. Attorney General Kris Mayes said she will appeal the decision. “The ACC did not respond to my office’s very serious allegations that the energy supply contract they approved enables TEP and a data center developer to set their own rate,” she wrote. “This Commission is not acting transparently or with accountability.”
A group of organizers with Pima Resists ICE fighting an immigration detention center in Marana have put together a draft resolution to town council members and called on local officials to adopt the language at their next meeting. Marana officials have said they had little ability to oppose the plan given that the building slated for the center was previously zoned for a prison.
