Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, senior vice president for research and partnerships at the University of Arizona, said he received the letter Sept. 24 and that it gave no explanation. He said the university traced the demand to a Sept. 22 scientific paper on the Event Horizon Telescope, a project with hundreds of authors worldwide.
