Raytheon land transfer approved. On Tuesday the Tucson City Council voted 4-2 to transfer 212 acres to the Air Force for potential Raytheon expansion, fulfilling a 1995 pre-annexation agreement and a 2009 amendment that would have required the city to repay $6.47 million if it declined. The vote followed council debate over jobs and economic benefit versus the ethics of facilitating weapons production. The city manager said the potential expansion is not for a data center and data-center regulations will apply to the site.

People with disabilities can meet Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and learn about voter registration and access to the polls at Disability Voter Day, a free event from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Ability360, 5025 E. Washington St. in Phoenix. Disability Rights Arizona is hosting the event, which includes lunch, ASL interpreters and CART captioning, along with the chance to meet election officials. Register.

Casino Del Sol’s 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament will raise money Sept. 7-8 for two Tucson-area nonprofits: the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Charitable Organization, which supports Pascua Yaqui families through cultural and educational programs, and Old Pueblo Community Services, which works to move people from homelessness into stable housing. The tournament, held at Sewailo Golf Club, is nearly sold out with 34 foursomes registered.

Sonoran Institute is hosting its 8th annual Santa Cruz River Dragonfly Festival throughout September, with free events across Tucson and Santa Cruz County. Options include a month-long community BioBlitz, guided dragonfly tours, webinars on damselflies and skimmers, a family nature morning at the river, and a 21+ drag and burlesque show at Hotel Congress. The League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson has changed its name to the League of Women Voters of Southern Arizona, effective Aug. 18. The new name reflects the League’s growth serving communities across the region while keeping its roots in Tucson, according to a news release. Learn more about the League.
