🗳️ Pima JTED is asking voters for its first-ever bond, a $250 million measure on the November ballot as Prop. 427 that would cost about $41 a year on a $250,000 home over 15 years. Sahuarita Oktoberfest brings polka music, German food and an artisan market to Sahuarita Lake Park from 5-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, with performances from Retro Polka 7 and the Lajkonik Polish Folk Ensemble. A sausage toss contest, a steinholding contest and a beer garden are also available. Admission is free.
Four captive-bred California condors will flap free into the wild at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of the 30th annual condor release and National Public Lands Day. The free event is open to the public at the Condor Viewing Site or via livestream on The Peregrine Fund’s YouTube channel.
The sun’s the star of the show at Saguaro National Park’s Sun Party on Sunday, Sept. 27, when the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association sets up telescopes at the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center for free, safe solar viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors can catch sunspots, flares and prominences flickering across our nearest star’s surface.
The Pima County Public Library hosts several after-school activities for kids and teens. From building with LEGOs to coding, homework help and arts and crafts, each location has different activities on different weekdays. Many locations also offer free snacks for kids. All library events are listed here. You can filter by location, age group or day to see what’s available.
The Tucson Unified School District will hold three community meetings next week to get public input on the closure and consolidation of neighborhood schools in Southern Arizona’s largest district. The Monday, Sept. 21 meeting at Sahuaro High School from 6-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26 meeting at Tucson High from 9-11:30 a.m. are at capacity. So far, the district says it will livestream the Monday meeting on its homepage. The Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Cholla High School from 4-6:30 p.m. requires an RSVP here. Celebrate beavers during the Watershed Management Group’s BeaverFest on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The all-ages event includes beaver-themed entertainment and merchandise along with food and beverages. Buy tickets here.
