The Rotary Club of Tucson Verde is hosting a Battery Recycling Drive 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Pima Community College Downtown campus. You can drop off batteries, rechargeable devices and tools, electric toothbrushes, wireless headphones, and devices like cell phones, tablets, smartwatches and bluetooth speakers. This event is specific to lithium-ion batteries, so they canât accept other e-waste such as power cords, TVs, printers or copiers.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to provide $399,440 in interim funding for the Woman, Infant and Children (WIC) Program during the ongoing federal government shutdown. That will help more than 4,400 infants access formula benefits uninterrupted through the end of November. That conversation is part of an ongoing discussion over how the county government can fill the holes in food bank need and food aid for refugees amid uncertainty over the future of key social services.

Help reduce Pima Countyâs street cat population and bring your neighborhood cat to the Pima Animal Care Centerâs free âSnip ânâ Tipâ event Nov. 7-9. As part of the centerâs Trap-Neuter-Return program, the event offers spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchips and parasite treatment at no cost. Residents can book appointments online and must bring cats in secure carriers or humane traps and return them to their original neighborhoods after surgery.
More than 60 local artists, makers and curators will gather for the Tanque Verde Fall Artisan Market on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tucson Country Day School, 9239 E. Wrightstown Road. The free, family-friendly east side event features live music by Eugene Boronow, kidsâ activities and handmade goods celebrating Tucsonâs creativity.
