Members of the Good Neighbor Interfaith Coalition and other community members will gather in Tucson over Mother’s Day weekend for the first in a series of monthly vigils honoring people detained by ICE. The inaugural event will take place May 9 at 9 a.m. at El Super on the city’s south side, where participants will remember impacted families and hear from community members and witnesses.

Donate to Pima County’s hygiene drive as part of Period Products Awareness Month now through May 30. Period and incontinence products, toiletries and hygiene supplies are needed at select library locations. The drive seeks pads or tampons, incontinence liners and underwear. Libraries will also accept travel-sized shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, wet wipes, travel-sized deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and large Band-Aids.

Take part in the sixth annual Southern Arizona MMIP Awareness 5K Run/Walk from 6-9 a.m. May 9 at the Pima Community College West Campus. Hosted by the University of Arizona’s IndigiWellbeing program, the event will feature guest speakers, honored elders and traditional performances. Register here.

The race for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction heats up on May 13 when Democratic candidates Brett Newby and Teresa Leyba Ruiz will debate. On May 14 Republicans Kimberly Yee and incumbent Tom Horne face off. All debates are 56 minutes commercial-free and will include a simulcast Spanish translation and ASL interpretation.
