Donate to Pima County’s hygiene drive as part of Period Products Awareness Month now through May 30. Period and incontinence products, toiletries and hygiene supplies are needed at select library locations. The drive seeks pads or tampons, incontinence liners and underwear. Libraries will also accept travel-sized shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, wet wipes, travel-sized deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and large Band-Aids.

Mariachi Azteca de Pima College performs Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at the West Campus Center for the Arts, 2202 W. Anklam Road. The student ensemble brings together voices, violins, trumpets, and guitars under the direction of Salvador Gallegos. Tickets are $6-7.

Take part in the sixth annual Southern Arizona MMIP Awareness 5K Run/Walk from 6-9 a.m. May 9 at the Pima Community College West Campus. Hosted by the University of Arizona’s IndigiWellbeing program, the event will feature guest speakers, honored elders and traditional performances. Register here.

Primary election season is here. The race for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction heats up on May 13 when Democratic candidates Brett Newby and Teresa Leyba Ruiz will debate. On May 14 Republicans Kimberly Yee and incumbent Tom Horne face off. All debates are 56 minutes commercial-free and will include a simulcast Spanish translation and ASL interpretation. Pima County artists needed. The Pima County Public Library seeks artists and their work to display at libraries around the county. Artists of all ages who live or work in Pima County are eligible to apply with an artist statement or biography and up to five images of their work. The library system creates exhibitions for emerging artists from culturally diverse backgrounds to increase interest in visual arts. Apply here.
