MOCA Tucson will host a celebration of its Living With Injury exhibit on Thursday Sept. 17 as part of its Free Third Thursday event. The exhibition, which closes on Sept. 27, represents the struggle and organizing of the predominantly Mexican American communities of Tucson’s south side who led one of the earliest and most successful environmental justice movements in the United States against defense industries contaminating the aquifer. The University of Arizona Humanities Festival begins next week. The six mini-lectures start Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. with UA basketball coach Tommy Lloyd and Golden State Warriors (and former UA superstar) Steve Kerr teaming for “Lessons from Around the World” a conversation about the impact of a global mindset and how it has shaped their coaching and leadership styles. Tickets start at $25 and support the Kerr Family Endowment for Humanities Abroad, which provides study abroad scholarships for humanities students. Lectures run through Nov. 4.
Join a walk honoring those lost to COVID-19. The fifth annual Yellow Heart Memorial Remembrance Walk steps off at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the River Walk at Garden of Gethsemane, 602 W. Congress St. in Tucson. The county proclaimed the day in honor of Tucson founder Maria Suarez and others who lost family members to the pandemic.
