The Arizona Luminaria team is excited to host an outstanding student journalist as part of the Jamieson-Metcalf fellowship program at the University of Arizona School of Journalism.

Senior Kyra Berg will cover public affairs topics and center the stories of Tucsonans this spring.

The Jamieson-Metcalf Family Scholarship for Public Affairs in Journalism at the UA School of Journalism was funded by UA alum Bill Jamieson for the purpose of creating a pipeline of journalists who are prepared to cover local government and policy.

Berg was previously an intern at the Tucson Agenda. In addition to studying journalism, she is minoring in public relations. She grew up in Southern California.

“I am excited to report on stories that are important to the Southern Arizona community and learn from the AZ Luminaria team,” Berg said. “I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity.”

Democracy Fund recently identified Arizona as one of several states with “significant need and opportunity” when it comes to local information and civic engagement.

“The Arizona Luminaria team is excited about this partnership with the University of Arizona School of Journalism to host and mentor rising-star journalists to help us craft local news that’s equitable, relevant, helpful, community-centered and accessible for all Arizonans,” said Becky Pallack, Arizona Luminaria’s co-founder.
