More than 1,000 supporters and mourners gathered at Catalina Park near Fourth Avenue on Wednesday, Sept. 2, many draped in rainbow flags and clothing bearing anti-hate messages, carrying candles and banners to honor Cameron Davis Capara and Vincent Anthony Siqueiros — two men killed outside the LGBTQ+ bar Venture-N on Monday, Aug. 31.

Attendees brought camping chairs and blankets, standing with with candles of all shapes and sizes and lighting them as the sun set. Kids played on the playground behind the temporary stage.

There were moments of levity among the memories and tears. Parents spoke about their sons and many speakers called Tucson a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community while calling on Tucsonans to protect and support their LGBTQ+ neighbors.
