Sept. 16 is the last day to mail in ballots for Congressional District 7’s special election. Election day is Sept. 23, when voters will decide between Democrat Adelita Grijalva, Republican Daniel Butierez, or a host of third-party candidates. The Attorney General has issued cease-and-desist letters to several properties over dangerous living conditions, including the troubled Spanish Trail Suites. Residents and organizers at Spanish Trail Suites have been raising concerns for months, particularly since a fire left the apartments without electricity for a period of time. All of the properties named in the letter are owned by or connected to landlord Brian Bowers, who has been sued by the city of South Tucson in the past. Bowers did not respond to a request for comment. Read the AG’s letter here.

Pima County will offer Covid-19 shots, the Health Department said Friday. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed an Executive Order this week, saying medical providers should provide the vaccine in accordance with “nationally recognized professional clinical guidance that ensures the broadest possible access.” Go online for clinic hours and locations and call for an appointment. Vaccination supplies are limited. Flu vaccine clinics will operate in October but locations and hours are not yet updated.
The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department has announced a 45-day public comment period for a proposal to rename Joaquin Murrieta Park on the west side to SalomĂłn R. Baldenegro Park. Read the proposal and submit a comment by Friday, Oct. 27 online here or by mail.
